Itinerary description:

DAY 01: CUSCO - LARES VALLEY - HOT SPRING – WACAWASI:

Early in morning the guide will pick you up from your hotel. And you will be transfered through the sacred valley, and its archaeological remains,  andean markets, cultivated Inca terraces and small villages. We will drive until the pass called Wacahuasi (4450m) from here we will descend downhill to Lares valley (3250m) where we wil have time to enjoy the thermals baths. Here we will meet the rest of our trek team, Cook and the arrieros (horses handlers), the horses will carry all food, our backpacks, and the camping gear.Lunch will be served at this point.

Then we will have three hours of uphill trekking to Wacawasi where we will set up our campsite. On this day you will have the chance to meet the locals and they will show their artisan weaving exhibition and lessons about its ancient techniques. (Lunch / Dinner)

DAY 02: WACAWASI - ABRA IPSAY – PATACANCHA:

After an early wake up and breakfast you will start trekking . We will hike between 7 to 8 hours, on the beginning we will uphill to the Abra Ipsay (4480m). The climb is pretty hard with an indescribable panoramic view of snow-capped peaks of Pitusiray, Sawasiray, Chicon and surrounding by stunning landscape. Half way stop for a lunch break. While hiking we will pass Andean communities. This people have a large knowledge of natural agriculture and ancient ways of working textile so that their colorful clothes, unique from this region. After the pass we will continue our journey downwards until our campsite next to the small village of Patacancha (3720m). Set up the tents and time to explore around on your own. (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)

DAY 03: PATACANCHA - PUMAMARKA - OLLANTAYTAMBO - AGUAS CALIENTES TOWN

Today There will be 5 hours of downhill hike where we will pass local communities such as Willoq (3400m), Pumamarca (3200m) and many others. From Patacancha through the landscape, crossing these villages we will have a touch of their traditions and habits passed on by our ancestors throughout the times of the Tahuatinsuyo Empire (the Inca - culture and traditions). Then we will continue walking and arrive to Ollantaytambo (2850m). From Ollantaytambo we will take the train to Aguas Calientes (2050m), the tourist town build beneath the ruins of Machupicchu. (Breakfast, Lunch)

Overnight in Aguas Calientes: hotel on your own.

DAY 04: MACHU PICCHU COMPLETE GUIDED TOUR - CUSCO

Today we will take the first bus up to Machu Picchu, the lost city of the Incas. Usually we get into Machupicchu by 7am, so from this time we will be able to visit Machupicchu before others hikers arrive here. Completely guided tour of this complex and then you will have plenty of time to explore Machupicchu by yourself and the whole site for about 3 hours and there is time as well to climb Huayna Picchu Mountain and get the best view over Machupicchu.

We will all meet afterwards to go down to Aguas Calientes where you can take lunch before boarding the train back to Cusco.

Arrival to Poroy´s train station and transfer to the hotel.

Program includes:

  • Orientation meeting in Cusco (previous to departure date).
  • Transfer put in and put off.
  • All balance meals during the trekking (4 days/3 nights), including 3 snacks.
  • All common camping gear: Two men mountain tent, mattress, kitchen dishes, kitchen tent, dinner tent, toilet tent, table, chairs.
  • Andean cook.
  • Mules for the whole camping equipment including personal.
  • Muleteers.
  • Support horses.
  • First aid kit with Oxygen.
  • Professional bilingual guide (English - Spanish), additional cost for other languages.
  • Short wave radios.
  • Sanitation care (disinfect dishes, filtered water, etc).
  • Environment care (all the garbage is going back to Cusco, portable toilet treatment).
  • Bus up and down from Machu Picchu (Last day).
  • Train Backpacker Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes – Cusco.
