Itinerary description

DAY 01: JULIACA (PUNO)

Arrive to the airport and transfer to your hotel. We will have a welcome dinner that night. (Dinner)

DAY 02: JULIACA TO AMAZON FOOTHILLS (bus) PUTINA PUNKU - PUT IN AT CURVA ALEGRE

An early morning departure in our bus will take us across the Altiplano from Juliaca in Puno into the Cordillera Carabaya. This scenic drive is alive with bird life and scattered Quechua villages. Crossing a 15,000 ft. high pass we will begin our descent into the cloud forest. Arriving and pass by the Pre-Inca town of Cuyo Cuyo. Continue the road until the town of Sandia and Putina Punku. Continuing our drive into the Amazon rain forest we will finally arrive at the headwaters of the Tambopata river. Here at the place known as Curva Alegre we will pump the raft and load all the gear. Before departure We will receive our safety speech and then start the rafting trip. Camp.

DAYS 03-04: TAMBOPATA RIVER (whitewater rafting)

As we leave the last traces of civilization we will enter to the pristine rain forest using the river as a highway. We will camp on a sandy beach along the way where we will see plenty of wild animal tracks.

DAYS 05-08: TAMBOPATA RIVER TO TABARA RIVER (whitewater rafting)

Surrounded by lush vegetation, we will run Class III and IV rapids. Possibly there will be good chances of see monkeys, capybaras, tapirs, and giant river otters among others animals.

DAY 09: TABARA RIVER TO TAMBOPATA RESEARCH CENTER (river canoe)

We will meet our outboard canoe and follow the river and the flat waters. Our journey will end at the macaw lick where we will spend the night in a lodge. Side hikes to explore the jungle and find wildlife

At the crack of dawn we will see a rowdy crowd of macaws with their variegated brilliance spattering the clay riverbank. Later our dug out motor canoe will take us to our jungle lodge in Puerto Maldonado.

DAY 10: PUERTO MALDONADO

After breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight out of Puerto Maldonado.
