Trujillo: Chanchan Temple and Huaca La Luna

Itinerary Description:

DAY 1: CHAN CHAN & HUANCHACO BEACH

Morning arrival by flight or bus to Trujillo, transfer to selected hotel in Trujillo or Huanchaco. Private Tour to Chan Chan, the capital de Chimú dynasty (1200 a 1470 AC) and the largest mud clay (adobe) city of America. Visit of one palace and the site museum. Afterwards visit to the Huaca Arco Iris alias El Dragón, a ceremonial place in Chan Chan. Afterwards we visit the beach town Huanchaco, where fishermen have fished with reed boats “caballitos de totora” made of totora reed since pre-Inca times. Time for an optional lunch and to relax on the beach. Those who want can do surfing as the waves are famous all around Peru. Overnight and breakfast in selected hotel

DAY 2: HUACA LA LUNA & LUNCH AT TRUJILLO

Private Tour to the Huaca de la luna, an adobe mud pyramid made by the Moche culture (100 - 750 AC) which is decorated with mural paintings that represent their main deity, Ai–Paec, known as the “Decapitator”. Visit to the monument and its interesting site museum.

Return to Trujillo for an included lunch and afterwards we see a demonstration of the “caballos de paso”, the Peruvian horse and its elegant movements on rhythm of the Marinera dance. We end our tour by visiting the central city of Trujillo and its Main square, colonial mansions and churches that remind us of the historic importance of Trujillo.

At night transfer to the bus station for comfortable public buses. Or transfer to the airport for those flying back to Lima.
