White Water Rafting at The Black Canyon of the Apurimac River

TRIP DETAILS

  • Level: Moderate
  • Season: May to November
  • Activities: Camping, Family, Nature, Rafting

Discover the Apurímac River, considered one of the best rafting routes in Peru and the most remote source of the Amazon. Over 3 days, you will navigate 52 kilometers of Class 2, 3 and 4 rapids, passing through dramatic canyons, sandy beaches, hidden waterfalls, ancient trails and historic bridges used since Inca times. No previous experience is required to join the expedition, making it perfect for families and first-time rafters. The journey begins in Cusco and descends to the historic Inca bridge of Huajachaca, where the adventure starts. From there, the river winds through one of the most spectacular canyons in the Cusco region, surrounded by towering rock walls, black rock formations, limestone cliffs, hanging bridges and untouched Andean landscapes. Along the way, you will paddle through stretches of exciting whitewater balanced with calmer sections where you can enjoy the scenery, swim, relax on river beaches and observe local wildlife. The canyon is home to bromeliads, orchids, river otters, cormorants, torrent ducks and deer. On the second day, you will take on iconic rapids such as “3 Condors” in the famous Black Canyon, while the third day includes some of the most thrilling sections of the expedition, including “The Other Right.” Each night, you will camp beside the river, gather around campfires and enjoy a true expedition atmosphere under the stars. More than a rafting trip, this is a journey into the heart of the Andes — an ideal experience for those seeking rafting in Cusco, authentic adventure, nature and adrenaline on one of the most spectacular rivers in South America.

Before starting, we will receive a safety briefing and basic paddling practice.
